Mangaroa – NZ’s first electric vehicle (EV) Mobile Library
Upper Hutt Libraries have been offering Outreach services with Mobile Library buses since 1975.
An internal review of Outreach services in 2019 identified that two smaller vehicles would deliver more cost-effective, flexible services to a wider range of customers, be more environmentally friendly, and would not require drivers to hold a Class II heavy transport licence.

As a result, Upper Hutt Libraries launched a smaller bus in July 2020 to replace the existing bus, and a custom-built EV van – Mangaroa - in July 2021.


Mangaroa is New Zealand’s first electric vehicle Mobile Library service, and offers a different model of Mobile Library service with custom built shelving units on castors and electric tailgate.

Come and see Mangaroa in action, at the south end of the SHED 6  arcade.  9.30am - 3.00pm both days of the National Forum.
